At the 72nd World congress of the International Association of Skal International, which was held in Turk (Finland), from 18th to 22nd of September, an ecotourism program of our Center – ECOTOURISM ON TRAMUNTANA (Island of Cres, Croatia) AS A METHOD OF PROTECTION OF NATURAL AND CULTURAL-HISTORICAL HERITAGE – was chosen as the best in the world in the sustainable tourism development. It was the first prize among the projects of sustainable development in the tourism for 2011, in the category of “General Countryside”, in a strong competition with many national parks and international touristic agencies. This extraordinary acknowledgment is a great honor for us and encouragement that, despite all the obstacles, we remain persistent on our path.

4th Griffon rescued

Next to island Krk, a young griffon was rescued by a young married couple from Novi Vinodolski, who were at the island trip. They brought him to Vrbnik and called us. We contacted Public Institution for Managing Protected Nature Areas who took the griffon in Vrbnik and organized his transportation to Cres, where we took care of him. The griffon is in a very bad condition and we are fighting for his life.

3th Griffon rescued

26th of August we received a call that there is a griffon in the sea next to island Plavnik. Goran, Vesna i Dea went to pick him by a speedboat. After examination, weighing, food and water, the griffon was put in quarantine.

2nd Griffon rescued

Second Griffon this year was rescued from the sea. Griffon fell into the sea from the cliff next to the cave, near Križić. Vlatko Herbai rescued him and drove him by boat to Beli. After that, the Griffon was transferred in the quarantine in the Eco- center.

Forest magic on the Tramuntana

At 8th of July, at 9 30 pm, in front of the Eco-Centre, under the cedar tree, will be a magical concert of the group Druyd (free entry), as a part of the manifestation called “Forest magic on the Tramuntana” dedicated to celebrating the World Year of Forests. With the specific intent, the group Druyd, will sing the song Magic Wood as a contribution to save this unique forest and its inhabitants… Additional events: hanging out with the group Druyd for several days will result with a number of workshops: At 7th and 9th of July, at the evening, there will be several workshops (didgeridoo, singing and rhythm workshops)

Especially, we are looking forward that the group Druyd will have their performance at our place, and we are more than happy that our former volunteer Dubravko Lapaine is leading them .

The third dead griffon this year

02.07.2011. around 4 pm, we received information that the griffon is on the beach in Orlec. Kim, Davor and Nives went to rescue him. Around 5 pm they arrived at the destination, but unfortunately griffon was already dead. From the local tourists on the beach, we found out that the griffon was already seen at 11 am on the same day. The fate of the griffon named Garbin, ringed in May this year, probably would have been different if we got an alert when he fell into the sea, or at least soon after the fall. So, once again we ask all who see the griffon in the sea or near the sea, to contact us as soon as possible (+385 91 343 0077) so we could together prevent such a tragic outcome.
